Another Wow!
This is one of the best ever! The intensity of the young girl trying out redwork and the beauty of Virginia's playing reaches out to the quilters soul, quilting (embroidery etc) spans generations in ways that few other arts can. I enjoyed too and was rather amused that you bought your own work of art back. It's beautiful! Happy Quilting! Teri

Another Great Podcast!
Once again, I enjoyed the podcast and look forward to the next. I especially enjoyed seeing you teaching the redwork embroidery to the young girl. Hearing the music and the people conversing in the background made me feel like I was there.

Absolutely Wonderful!!!
Alex, I look forward to your podcasts every week - they are all good and informational but this one I especially loved. I purchased my copy of "I Remember Mama" at the International Quilt Show in Chicago last Spring. Words cannot describe how moving this book is, and when I saw the title of this week's podcast, I got my copy in front of me and read it again!! Thank you so much for all you do - you're the best!

In your podcast you mentioned Doreen Speckman. I had the honor and pleasure of seeing her speak at a guild I was a member of in FL. years ago. She was very funny. I so enjoyed it and was sad to hear she had passed. I had not been involved with any quilting for a long time until recently and tried to look her up online and thats when I found out.

Jinny Beyer
This is the podcast that I listen to over and over because Jinny is a gal after my one heart. When I began quilting back in the 70's I really wanted to do it by hand but was told 'you need to stay with the times and use your sewing machine'. So sadly I followed that advise but now that I am in MY 70's I's going to follow Jinny's advise and do it by hand. Her new book is fantastic with tons of great information and great ideas for projects to be done by hand or machine. Thank you, Jinny, for taking the time to write this book and thank you, Alex, for having her on your podcast.

Karey Bresenhan, President of Quilts Inc.

Our hearts were broken Sept. 11th 2001. Karey added a venue at the Houston Market and Festival (6 weeks later) where quilters could express their pain, emotion, hope and pride in this stunning exhibit. This quilt was made by Erlene Irwin of Lexington, VA. All the quilts can be seen in Karey's book, America from the Heart (available on line at www.quilts.com).

This is an example of a quilt held in Karey's private collection. This log cabin quilt was made crica 1890 in silk. This sort of work makes my heart sing. More of her collection can be seen in Celebrate Great Quilts also available on line at www.quilts.com

All that you said is true regarding sub-cultures. I am a cowgirl, a Native American and a Quilter. It doesn't matter what scene we are in, we do need to watch for those who are in the area 'just lookin.' We may be able to convince them to join the crowd or at the least help get rid of some of the false prejudices regarding our sub-culture.

What is a podcast?
A podcast is really just any show (audio or video) that is available online, and is set up so folks can subsribe to it. While many sites offer a direct download of their shows, it's the option of subscribing (sign up for automatic downloads of new shows) that makes an online show a "podcast."

How can I subscribe to this podcast?
If you would like to download new shows as they become available, automatically... you will need to use a player that knows how to subscribe to podcasts. The most popular choice at the moment seems to be Apple's
iTunes. You can learn more about listening to podcasts with iTunes here..
